Finding your files just got much easier, with faster and more comprehensive search built into Benchling.

Type a query into the search box to instantly search through the contents of all your files on Benchling. We've dramatically increased the fields we search over to include notes, attachment filenames, and even the contents of Word documents and PDFs. The new search algorithm is smarter and more flexible when searching for files by name.

To narrow down the results, you can filter by file type (for example, only protocols) or by tag names and values. You can also open a project, resource, or folder and type into its search box to narrow the search to a subfolder.

By default, search results are sorted by relevance, which takes into account factors such as what parts of the file matched (e.g. file names are more important than file contents) and how much of the file matched your query. You can always change the results back to be sorted by name, modification date, or tags.

Even though the new full-text search processes more data from your files, thanks to recent improvements on our backend it is twice as fast than our previous search!

We are always looking to improve search, with changes like saved searches and advanced filters on the way. If you have any questions or feedback while using it, click the help icon at the bottom right to get in touch.
